My grandfather was a carpenter. He passed away when I was a teenager. From what I do remember of him, I remember his lightheartedness, his kindness and compassion, his warmth and tenderness to me, a very sensitive kid. He was the first family member I really saw myself in. We both love knowing how things work, how things are put together, both deeply committed to our work and our people. I miss him. Somehow, these silly little nails make me feel connected to him. Andrea Gibson once said they believe all art is made by the dead, we just don't know it. I'd love to believe that grandpa and I made this one together.
